Cell C mobile network branding in South Africa

Johannesburg—South African mobile operator Cell C reported a 57.4% increase in full-year headline earnings, supported by stronger prepaid revenue and lower debt following a balance sheet restructuring.

Headline earnings per share for the financial year ended May 31, 2026, rose to 23.37 rand, from 14.85 rand a year earlier, the company said in a statement.

The results highlight improving financial performance at Cell C following restructuring measures aimed at strengthening its balance sheet and reducing debt.

The company has increasingly focused on prepaid and other growth areas as it operates in South Africa's highly competitive telecommunications market. Earlier results showed improving prepaid trends alongside continued growth in its wholesale business.

The stronger annual earnings also come as Cell C seeks to build on a more resilient financial position and pursue growth under its capital-light business model.

Cell C's sharp increase in headline earnings points to improving profitability, with stronger prepaid performance and reduced debt providing important support to the mobile operator's financial position.
