Cairo—Telecom Egypt has been added to the FTSE Russell Emerging Markets Index following its promotion from the Small Cap to the Mid Cap segment of the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (GEIS).
The upgrade came as part of FTSE Russell’s semi-annual review for September 2026 covering the Middle East and Africa region. Telecom Egypt said its market capitalisation had risen to approximately $3.9 billion, comfortably exceeding the threshold required for Mid Cap classification.
The company said the move reflects stronger liquidity, cash generation and financial and operational performance, alongside disciplined capital allocation.
Greater visibility among global investors
Inclusion in the FTSE Emerging Markets Index could increase Telecom Egypt’s visibility among international institutional investors and potentially attract additional flows from funds that track the index.
The index uses criteria including market capitalisation, liquidity, trading activity and free-float requirements. Telecom Egypt is now one of only three Egyptian companies included in the FTSE Russell Emerging Markets Index.
The development also represents a boost for the Egyptian Exchange, strengthening the market’s representation within global equity benchmarks.
Telecom Egypt's shares trade on the Egyptian Exchange under ETEL.CA, while its global depositary receipts trade in London.
Stronger financial backdrop
The index upgrade follows a period of improved financial performance for Telecom Egypt. In its first-half 2026 results, the company reported a 17% year-on-year increase in revenue to EGP 59.2 billion, while net profit rose 47% to EGP 15.4 billion.
