Algiers—Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has appointed Mohamed Lamine Lebbou, the governor of the Bank of Algeria, as the country’s new finance minister in a partial cabinet reshuffle.
The appointment puts Lebbou in charge of Algeria’s finance ministry just months after he was appointed central bank governor in February, replacing Salah Eddine Taleb. Algeria’s central bank confirmed that Lebbou had been appointed governor by presidential decree on Feb. 23, 2026.
The presidency also announced three other ministerial changes. Mohamed Hattab was appointed minister of labour, employment and social security, Sid Ali Khaldi was named minister of agriculture, rural development and fisheries, while Mohamed Bouslimani returned as communications minister.
Lebbou replaces Abdelkrim Bouzred at the finance ministry. His appointment creates a vacancy at the Bank of Algeria, with the presidential statement not immediately identifying his successor.
The move comes as Algeria continues to focus on strengthening financial stability and supporting economic reforms. The Bank of Algeria's mandate includes maintaining price, monetary and financial stability while supporting orderly economic development.
