Heavy Rains Raise Fresh Concerns for Ghana’s Cocoa Harvest

Cocoa farmers in Ghana are warning that unusually persistent rainfall and the spread of black pod disease could significantly reduce production during the 2026/27 season.

Farmers report that excessive rainfall has disrupted pollination, damaged flowering crops and increased fungal infections across major producing regions. Industry participants fear that delayed disease control measures could further affect yields.

Ghana remains one of the world’s leading cocoa producers, and any substantial decline in output could have implications for global cocoa markets, particularly after recent years of supply disruptions in West Africa.
